Philippines' First Akido Shodan, an Ilonggo

A little known fact happened last December 22, 2006 when an Ilonggo by the name of Francisco P. Valencia passed away from our midst. This Ilonggo, humble in his beginnings as well as in his end, is considered to be the first Filipino awarded the status of blackbelt in Aikido the world over. Aikido in translation is “The Way of Harmony”, an Art of Peace, a cry of humanity to do away with war and advocate peace in the world. Japan’s way of recanting from its previous disposition of global domination. In the same way Karate and Judo were made into global sport of friendly competition.
